Key

The materials used to make Key were collected and curated over a span of 6+ months. The actual construction of Key took one month to complete.

Key is a hand-sewn soft sculpture, jointed, with 5 moveable joints. She was made with dense long pile mohair, hand-dyed sparse mohair, and hand-dyed medium pile sourced from the UK.
The legs and arms were sewn with 70-100 year old mohair sourced from vintage stuffed animals which were painstakingly hunted for, disassembled , washed and hand-dyed. Key's eyes are vintage matte plastic doll eyes.

Key is partially woven with wire to form the key on top of the head and make its neck and back sturdy. This also allows you to reposition it slightly.
Key is stuffed with a wood wool and wool combination and weighted with pebbles and glass beads. Powdered pigment and wax were used for detailing.
As with all my creatures, key has a threadbare look and is carefully distressed to add a mystical quality and vintage aesthetic.
